You get more point by hitting certain areas, such as the mailbox, front door or the trashcan. The screenshots are of the EGA version. Sound is pc speaker and is only music, there are no in-game sounds. You can redefine the steering keys, but the main only bug is you MUST redefine them every time you play, but pressing left, right, up, down and space isn't too bad a price to pay.
Wow this was an original game. Ok, so it was, honest, but it was darn crap after a while. It's been made on basically all the systems I can think of though, so it can't be all that bad! You're the paperboy for that good ol' newspaper The Daily Sun. It's your job to make sure that all subscribers to the paper get their copy!
Also you can go and abuse the people that don't subscribe an added bonus for those really dedicated workers! Playing this game gives a whole new angle to the role of the paperboy, although I'm not sure I've seen the lad that delivers our paper fall off his bike as often as I did ;. There are kerbs you hit, fences, dogs, people, and steps oddly some of them are built across the footpath. There are even break-dancers!!
When I started out playing this I was awful, I gradually got better. I think that was the main thing that kept me playing it, not the actual game, but beating my own best. I know that doesn't say much about the game play, but it does get repetitive.
You either love this game, or you just play it because you are bored. All in all though, it's a great challenge. Beat your own best, or kick your friends arses ; Just get through it so you can say you did even! I admit I sometimes still give it a whirl. Paperboy is yet another classic that most people that have owned an older computer will recognize when they see it again. As far as I know this is the only game that offers what Paperboy does. Not because the actual game objects are that interesting but at least you don't see it in other games.

The player guides a bicycle-mounted paper delivery boy along the streets of a small town. The goal is to deliver all the papers by tossing one into each subscriber's box. It is no coincidence that the gamer gets six "lives", twice as many as in games that seem harder because they move at higher speed. In truth, Paperboy is almost leisurely compared to Mindscape's other arcade-to-home translations, but it is no pushover even for experienced gamers.
The bicycle can't make sharp turns, so obstacles must be identified quickly if the player is to have even a slim chance of avoiding them. Pedestrians dash into the bike's path, boom boxes and toys litter the sidewalk, loose rolling tires can send the paperboy sprawling, dogs nip at heels, and impassible gates block the sidewalk at several points.
When the hero crosses the street, reckless vehicles rush through the crosswalk, oblivious of his safety. And if circumstances force the bicycle into the street, open manholes and treacherous sewer grates cause nasty spills. The goal is to get the paperboy through his route in one piece while delivering papers to all the houses with paper boxes. These houses are easily distinguished by their yellow paint scheme. The gamer must look for boxes labeled "subscriber" in that version.
A bonus screen appears at the completion of the route. The paperboy must zip through this gauntlet as quickly as possible, tossing papers at targets along the way to earn additional points. The player also gets points for throwing papers through the windows of nonsubscribers and for hitting garbage cans and gravestones along the regular route.
Considering the relative scarcity of arcade-style games for home computers, the arrival of Paperboy is especially welcome. And even a half-decade in obscurity has not dimmed its luster.
