I assume you are using Windows 7 and trying to connect to network wirelessly? There are numerous threads on here for precisely this issue and some not very unhelpful answers. Have you tried to manually add the wireless network and selected connect automatically? This appears to have solved my problems. Click on Manage Wireless Networks on left hand side and a new window opens - Manage wireless networks that use Wireless Connections.
Tick box which says "Connect automatically when this network is in range" and click Next button. Click Close button on next window that opens or you can have a look at the settings if you like and then click on Close.

Do you connect with a third party wireless management program? If so, I suggest that you run the program as administrator, or switch to the Windows 7 build-in wireless management and adjust related settings. Apparently it's an old protocol used for older equipment. Whether this has anything to do with the problem, I don't know. But it does sound suspicious to this networking novice. Our network is supplied by our local cable company, with whom with upgraded our service.
Never had a problem with the old Linksys. Just a thought. Good luck. When I finally solve my problem, I'll report again. I found out that if I go to the Network and Sharing Center in Control Panel; then click on "Set up a new connection or network"; then "Manually connect to a wireless network"; and enter the credentials for the wireless router manually I am able to access the internet and network without any problem and without being asked for additional user names or passwords.
