Uhm, you might have got a defective drive. It's kind of frequent with Lite-On dvd burners and Sony's and the like. I personaly don't like those dvd burners. Usually the firmware flasher included in the updates is coded so that it will flash only the same "badge" drives Sony fw updates for Sony drives, Liteon fw updates for LiteOn drives, etc but lately the flashers are more flexible and would flash any compatible drives.
Check it out. Try reinstall Windows! Dont forget to back-up your sensitive data before on a cd or different partition. I have had the same drive for 3 months and have experienced exactly the same problem. I waited 20 minutes or so and then forced nero to shut down and then restarted the computer.
I have tried re-installing nero, updating to the latest firmware, and re-installing the device drivers. Nothing has worked. I have e-mailed Sony but they have been slow to respond. I have noticed that your post is a few months old. Did you ever get this problem fixed? For original DVDR and blank or recorded the drive works just fine I called Sony today about my drive.
When I told them what had happened they immediately issued me an RMA number and told me to return the drive for replacement. I find it odd that they didn't ask me any questions about my system configuration and they didn't ask me to perform any diagnostic tests on the drive. I suspect that this problem occurs frequently with this drive and is hardware related. Of course, I don't know for sure. It will be interesting to see if this problem becomes a big issue with this particualr model of drive in the future.
Also, the tech that I talked to on the phone told me that the drive has two different lasers. What do you expect from sony Same problem. I have tried everything to solve this problem. Reinstalled Nero, firmware etc. I might have to buy a new burner! If you are an aussie you will know what I mean!
I finally got my drive replacement today from Sony it took about two weeks. I checked it to make sure that it had the latest firmware a confusing experience, see below and then did a fresh install of Nero 6 up to date with the latest patches.
I waited about 10 minutes and then forced nero to shut down and then restarted the computer deja-vu. Perhaps there is a problem with Nero? The firmware also seems to be a likely culprit. The drive the died and was replaced was using the BY02 version of the firmware when it died.
So I attempted to try the above procedure. However, the files on the linked pages are exe files. What other steps do I have to take? I cant seem to locate the binary firmware for the BYX5, only exe files, and i cant figure out how it changes the firmware. In fact flashfix says that it doesnt even change firmware. As you can tell im a little confused, can someone help me as to what to do next? Hi, I don't understand why it wouldn't work.
Mine was bys3 and i crossflashed it with an exe file and it worked. Maybe you could use another flash tool, eventually in ms-dos.
I don't know how to use a tool as crossflash. Maybe on the forum over there you'll find some directions. I think i saved my bys3 binary and eeprom, i think file. Of course, you know that you would use this file at your own risk. I hope your mail doesn't end in my bulk folder, because i never check messages there.
I,m not an expert. I just wanted to share something i've been through and it worked, because i know how hard it is not to find anything about it. Also, I think that the 2 urls from the first post will take you to a site where you can document enough and you can find your drive information and firmware updates if any.
I have the feeling that if you can't find it there, you won't find it anywhere. Last edited: Apr 27, Email sent. Thanks for the help. If this doesnt work is there any way to just delete the firmware entirely and start with a "fresh flash", as it were? Edit: Thanks for the help, im not sure what i was doing wrong but the email you sent me with the bys3 firmware worked and it took this time, and now im burning dvds without having to crossflash Youre the man man, thanks a bunch.
Last edited: Apr 25, What are differencies between these two drives? Does someone tried? Nothing of this doesn't exist when I use any of 4X media.
Then I tried newer BY03 fw, which is acting the same way as its predecesor. I'm really confused, so help me, please Regards,. TechHead 2[H]4U. Joined Oct 12, Messages 3, The and are different drives.
